People try to hit only those who they think as dangerous for themselves. Same is true everywhere else. We tend to push away or hit or kill anything which seems life threatening to us. In professional environment, never make anybody defensive i.e never make them feel that you are putting their job in danger or you are taking away their job. Moment they have slightest hint of any such act, they will turn defensive. In normal circumstances this is ok, things move on. Problem comes when the conditions are difficult, opportunities get scarce and there is a race for getting good work. In these conditions if you are a trusted partner, you will survive; otherwise it will be very difficult.
